The cardiologist asks
“Does it hurt?”
“No” I say not knowing
how to describe the
weight and ache.
Veins and arteries branch
heavy and bark covered
from my core, like limbs.
My hands go numb when I drive.
My hips ache at night.
The dark center of my trunk
is warm and hollow
where a nightingale
sings on her nest.
